MOEEN QURESHI

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, IFC

Mr. Moeen Qureshi was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of IFC from 1977-1981. Prior to that he was Vice President and second in command between 1974 and 1977. Mr. Qureshi also served with the International Monetary Fund from 1958 to 1970, both at headquarters and in the field, in a variety of senior economic and operations assignments before joining IFC.

“I think the most important thing I was able to accomplish was to bring about a clear sense of business strategy and to formulate a longer term program for IFC,” he told the IFC publication Catalyst. He added, “IFC should be very proud that many of its objectives have been attained. IFC, in fact, can take a great deal of credit for having initiated foreign private investment, and for being an effective catalyst for it in many countries.”

From 1980 to 1991 he was the World Bank’s Senior Vice President for Finance. He served as Chief Financial Officer of the Bank from 1980 to1987 and then as Senior Vice President for Operations, in charge of all Bank operations from 1987 to 1991.

Mr. Qureshi served as Prime Minister of Pakistan for an interim period in 1993.

Mr. Qureshi has a B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. (Economics) from the University of Punjab and a Ph.D. (Economics) from Indiana University and is currently the Chairman and Managing Partner of Emerging Markets Partnership, based in Washington, D.C.
