Lars H. Thunell, a Swedish national, is the Executive Vice President of IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group.

Mr. Thunell joined the corporation in 2006, after a successful career in the financial services industry. Most recently he was the Chief Executive Officer of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (SEB), a North European Bank headquartered in Sweden. SEB is active in wholesale banking, retail banking, asset management and life insurance, with assets of $240 billion and 20,000 employees.

In the 1990s, Mr. Thunell served as the Chief Executive Officer of Trygg-Hansa Swedish insurance company and as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Nordbanken. He was also President and Chief Executive Officer of Securum in Stockholm, the asset management company established by the Swedish Government to help solve the Swedish financial crises.

Mr. Thunell comes with solid international experience, gained at ABB Zurich, where he built the financial services division, and American Express in New York. He has also held numerous non-executive board positions with international companies and nongovernmental organizations.

Mr. Thunell graduated with a doctorate from the University of Stockholm and was a research fellow at the Harvard University Center for International Affairs.
